Act with Confidence. Confidence comes from a Latin word which means to “trust.” Acting with confidence is trusting the value you have placed upon yourself. It’s talking without fear of what others will think. It’s saying no when saying yes would be contrary to your true intentions.

How do you gain confidence when you don’t really feel it? Act as if you have it. Don’t worry about whether your feelings support your actions. Begin to take more interest in how you look, what you eat, the fitness of your body. Determine what you think about world conditions. Discover and encourage your best thoughts and most promising personality traits. Concentrate on your strengths. Give yourself a reward for accomplishing even the smallest of goals. Think of yourself as special in all the world. You are!

Acting with confidence can break vicious cycles of fear. For example, suppose you want to suggest a more efficient procedure for handling the paperwork at the office, but are afraid to mention it because the boss does not like people telling him what to do. A fear cycle can be diagramed like this:
